Anti-Discrimination Policy for Bristol United Football Club
 


Bristol United Football Club is responsible for setting standards and values to apply throughout the club at every level. Football belongs to and should be enjoyed by everyone, equally. Our commitment is to confront and eliminate discrimination whether by reason of sex, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or disability.

Equality of opportunity at Bristol United Football Club means that in all our activities we will not discriminate or in any way treat anyone less favourably, on grounds of sex, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or disability.

This includes:

  • The advertisement for volunteers
  • The selection of candidates for volunteers
  • Courses
  • External coaching and education activities and awards
  • Football development activities
  • Selection for teams

Bristol United Football Club will not tolerate sexual or racial based harassment or other discriminatory behaviour, whether physical or verbal and will work to ensure that such behaviour is met with appropriate action in whatever context it occurs,

Bristol United Football Club is committed to the development of the programme of ongoing training and awareness raising events and activities in order to promote the eradication of discrimination within its own organisation and in the wider context, within football as a whole.

 
  Bristol United Football Club Complaints Procedure  
 
In the event that any member feels that he or she has suffered discrimination in any way or that the club policies, rules or Code of Conduct have been broken, they should follow the procedures below.

They should report the matter to the Club secretary or another member of the committee.

Your report should include:

  • Details of what, when, and where the occurrence took place.
  • Any witness statement and names.
  • Names of any others who have been treated in a similar way.
  • Details of any former complaints made about the incident, date, when and to whom made.
  • A preference for a solution to the incident.

The club’s Management Committee will have the power to warn as to the future conduct, suspend or remove from membership, any person found to have broken the club’s policies or Codes of Conduct.

 
  Bristol United Football Club Constitution  
 
1) The Club
a) The Club shall be called, Bristol United Football Club.
b) Our Kit will be yellow shirts/black shorts and yellow socks with a black hoop outlined with a white band.
c) Headquarters: TBA
d) Grounds: TBA
e) Training indoors will be at the City Technology College

Summer Training specified by the Managers.

f) The Club shall be an Affiliated Member Club of the Football Association by virtue of its affiliation to/membership of the Gloucestershire Football Association Ltd (Youth Section). The Rules and regulations of the Football Association Ltd and parent County Association and any League or Competition to which the Club is affiliated for the time being shall be deemed to be incorporated into the Club Rules.

f) Proposed leagues will be Hanham Minor League, Avon Youth League and Bristol (U18) Football Combination League.

 
  2) Management Committee  
 


a) Officers of the Club: President, Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Club Secretary, Minutes Secretary, Social Secretary, 2 Joint Treasurers, The Club Child Protection Officer and Managers of each team.

b) Retiring officers shall be eligible for re-election without nomination.

c) That any management committee member who is absent from three consecutive meetings without satisfactory reason shall be deemed to have resigned.

d) The Management Committee shall deal with business on a regular basis.

e) Six members of the Management Committee shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.

 
  3) Founder Members  
 


The Founder members being:- Roy & Sharon Douglas, Mark Young, Sarah Smith, Courtney & Joanne Adams, Steve & Vicky Cross, Gilbert Anderson, Carmelita Kelly, Guzz & Niki Mahmood, Julie Hatton, Ian & Julie Fine and Bob & Karen Probert.

 
  4) Child Protection Policy and Equal Opportunities  
 


a) Bristol United shall have a designated Child Protection Officer at the Club.

b) Bristol United Football Club is committed to creating and preserving the safest possible environment for children to play football.

c) It is the duty of all Club Officials, Team Managers and any other individual directly or indirectly involved with club or team activities to be aware of and help prevent the abuse which children can suffer; neglect, physical, sexual and emotional.

d)Bristol United Football Club accepts children's welfare is paramount and all children, whatever their age, race, culture, disability, gender or religious belief, have the right to protection from abuse. All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.

e) Bristol United Football Club fully support and will abide by The Football Association's Child Protection Policies and Procedures, Codes of Conduct and the Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination Policy so as to establish a safe environment for young people to play football.

f) Bristol United Football club is committed to a policy of equal treatment of all members and requires all members of whatever level or authority to abide and adhere to this general principle and to the requirements and aims of The Football Association. Football belongs to and should be enjoyed by everyone equally.

 
  5) Annual General Meeting  
 


a) An AGM shall be held not later than 30 June in each year at which Officers of the Club will be elected.

b) Nominations for a position of Officer must be placed with Secretary two weeks prior to the AGM.

c) Nominees require a proposer and seconder who are apart of the Management Committee.

d) Club Membership fees will be set at the AGM each year.

 
  6) Committee Meetings  
 


a) General meetings will be held at periodic intervals of no more than 2 months.

b) The Management Committee will set the date and time of meetings ensuring
14 days notice is given.

c) A minimum of Six Committee members of the club at any meeting will constitute a quorum. In points of dispute or discipline the decision of the Management Committee shall be final. In the event of a tie the Chairperson shall have the casting vote.

d)Each team can elect a parent representative to attend general meetings but would not carry a voting right.

e) Minutes of the said meeting will be taken and published.

 
  7) Extraordinary General Meetings  
 


a) An EGM can be called by 6 or more Committee members, by giving 21 days written notice to the Club Secretary.

b) The names of the 6 Committee members and reason for calling the EGM must be specified in the written notice.

c) The Management Committee will advise accordingly of the EGM (ensuring 14 days notice is given).

d) The Management Committee in advising of the EGM will publish the written notice given.

e) The Subject matter of the EGM shall be limited to that specified in the written notice, with the outcome being decided on simple majority subject to a show of hands.

 
  8) Voting Members  
 


a) Any Person on the management Committee.

b)Any Founder Member will be eligible to vote at an EGM.

 
  9) Club Members  


a) Any player for which the Club is in receipt of a completed membership form, duly signed by: His/Her Parent/Guardian and His/Her Team Manager. to include the appropriate signing on fee.

  10) Finance  
 


a) The Finances of the Club will be deposited in the name of Bristol United Football Club at a Bank designated by the Management Committee.

b) The Chairperson, One Treasurer and Club Secretary shall be signatories to the account.

c) The Accounts will be audited each year prior to the AGM by an Independent Auditor appointed by the Management Committee.

d) No Member shall, except for professional services rendered at the request of the Management Committee, receive any profits or emoluments from the funds or transactions of the Club.

e) It is permissible, subject to Management Committee approval, for a sub account to be set up and managed by the Treasurers. The purpose for such an account being the raising of additional funds for use either by the Club generally or for specific age groups within the Club.

f) All funds including subs raised by teams must be reported to and accounted for within Club accounts. It must be handed in at each monthly general meeting as defined by the Treasurers.

g) All moneys handed in at each monthly general meeting will be double-checked and written in the minute book

h) All equipment required by any team must be proposed and agreed to by the Management committee before any money is spent. Under no circumstances will any team spend any club money before it is documented and accounted for.

i) Sponsorship and fund raising moneys is for the sole use of the team that has obtained or raised the money but this too should be handed in and documented before it is spent. Our aim at Bristol United is to run a honest and trustworthy club!.

 
  11) Club Code of Conduct  
 


a) The Management Committee will maintain a Club Code of Conduct which will outline the Ethos of the Club and behaviour expected of by all involved.

b) Every one must agree to abide by the Code of Conduct.

c) Breaches of the Code of Conduct will invoke the disciplinary procedures as determined by the Management Committee.

d) A signed "Club Application Form" will constitute acceptance of the Code of Conduct.

 
  12) Amendment of Constitution  
 


a) This constitution may be added to, repealed or amended by resolution at any General Meeting/AGM providing that no such resolutions shall be deemed to have been passed unless it is carried by a majority of at least two thirds of the Committee Members present voting on it.

 
  13) Dissolution  
 


a) If at any general meeting a resolution for the dissolution of the Club shall be passed by a majority of the Committee Members present, the management committee shall:

Call an Extraordinary General Meeting (subject to the rules governing an EGM).

b) If as a result of the EGM the Motion to dissolve the Club is passed the Management Committee shall immediately:

Proceed to realise the property of the Club;.

Discharge all liabilities; and

Divide the remainder equally among all fully paid up members.

c) Upon completion of such division, the Club shall be dissolved.

 
  Bristol United Football Club: Code of Conduct For Coaches  
 


1. Coaches must respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person and treat each equally with the context of the sport.

2. Coaches must place the well-being and safety of each player above all other considerations, including the development of performance.

3. Coaches must adhere to all guidelines laid down by governing bodies.

4. Coaches must develop an appropriate working relationship with each player based on mutual trust and respect.

5. Coaches must not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.

6. Coaches must encourage and guide players to accept responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.

7. Coaches must ensure that the activities they direct or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of players.

8. Coaches should, at the outset, clarify with the players (and where appropriate, parent/guardian) exactly what is expected of them and also what they are entitled to expect from their coach.

9. Coaches must cooperate fully with other specialists (e.g. other coaches, officials, sports scientists, doctors, physiotherapists) in the best interest of the player.

10. Coaches must always promote the positive aspects of the sport (e.g. fair play) and never condone violations of the laws of the Game, behaviour contrary to the spirit of the Laws of the game or relevant rules and regulations or the use of prohibited substances or techniques.

11. Coaches must consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.

12. Not to use or tolerate inappropriate language.

Obligations Towards the Game.

The team official should:

  • Seat a positive example for others, particularly young players and supporters.
  • Promote and develop his own team having regard to the interest of the players, supporters and reputation of the national game.
  • Share knowledge and experience when invited to do so, taking into account the interest of the body that has requested this rather than personal interests.
  • Avoid all forms of gamesmanship.
  • Show due respect to Match Officials and others involved in the game.
  • Always have regard to the best interests of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion of the game and any particular aspect of it, including others involved in the game.
  • Not use or tolerate inappropriate language.

Obligations Towards the Team.

The team official should:

  • Make every effort to develop the sporting, technical and tactical levels of the club/team, and to obtain the best results by the team, using all permitted means.
  • Give priority to the interests of the team over individual interests.
  • Resist all illegal or unsporting influences, including banned substance and techniques.
  • Promote ethic principles
  • Show due respect to the interests of player, coaches and other officials, a their own club/team and others.

Obligations Towards the Supporters.

The team official should:

  • Show due respect to the interests of supporters.
  • Respect Towards the Match Officials

A team official should:

  • Accept the decisions of the Match official without protest.
  • Avoid words or actions which may mislead a Match Official.
  • Show due respect towards Match officials.
 
  Equal Opportunities Policy for Bristol United Football Club  
 


Bristol United Football Club is committed to a policy of equal treatment of all members and requires all members of whatever level of authority, to abide and adhere to this general principle and the requirements of the Codes of Practice issued by the Equal Opportunities Commission and Commission for Racial Equality.

All members are expected to abide by the requirements of the Race Relations Act 1976, Sex Discrimination Act 1986 and Disability Discrimination Act 1995. Specifically discrimination is prohibited in:

  • Treating any individual on grounds of gender, colour, marital status, race, nationality or ethnic or national origin, religion, sexual orientation or disability less favourably than others.

  • Expecting an individual solely on the grounds stated above to comply with requirement(s) for any reason whatsoever related to their membership, which are different to the requirements of others.

  • Imposing on an individual, requirements which are in effect more onerous on that individual than they are on others. For example this would include applying a condition (which is not warranted by the requirements of the position) which makes it more difficult for members of a particular race or sex to comply than others not of that race or sex.
 
  Victimisation of an individual.  
 


Harassment of an individual (which for the purposes of this policy and the actions and sanction applicable thereto is regarded as discrimination).

  • Any other act or omission of an act, which has as its effect the disadvantaging of a member against another, or others, purely on the above grounds. Thus, in all the club’s recruitment, selection, promotion and training processes, as well as disciplinary and other matters (in other words all instances where those in control of members are required to make judgements between them) it is essential that merit, experience, skills and temperament are considered as objectively as possible.

  • Bristol united Football Club commits itself to the immediate investigation of any claims of discrimination on the above grounds and where such is found to be the case, a requirement that the practice cease forthwith, restitution of damage or loss (if necessary) and to the investigation of any member accused of discrimination.

  • Any member found guilty of discrimination will be instructed to desist forthwith. Since discrimination in its many forms is against the Football Club’s policy, any members offending will be dealt with under the disciplinary procedure.

Bristol United Football Club commits itself to the disabled person whenever possible and will treat such members, in aspects of their recruitment and membership, in exactly the same manner as other members. The difficulties of their disablement permitting, assistance will be given wherever possible to ensure that disabled members are helped in gaining access. Appropriate training will be made to such members who request it.

All those involved with the game at every level, whether as a player, match official, coach, owner or administrato, have a responsibility, above and beyond compliance with the law, to act according to the highest standards of integrity and to ensure that the reputation of the game is, and remains, high. This code applies to all those involved in football under the auspices of The Football Association.

Football, at all levels, is a vital part of a community. Football will take into account community feeling when making decisions.

Parents/spectators have a great influence on children’s enjoyment and success in football. All children play football because they first and foremost love the game - it’s fun. It is important to remember that however good a child becomes at football within our club it is important to reinforce the message to parents/spectators that positive encouragement will contribute to :

  • Children enjoying football
  • A sense of personal achievement.
  • Self esteem.
  • Improvement in the child’s skills and techniques.

A parents/spectator’s expectations and attitudes have a significant bearing on a child's attitude towards:

  • Other players
  • Officials
  • Managers
  • Spectators

We want to ensure that parents/spectators at Bristol United Football Club are always positive and encouraging towards all of the children, not just their own. We want to encourage parents/spectators to:

  • Applaud the opposition as well as our own team.
  • Avoid coaching the children during the game.
  • Refrain from shouting and screaming.
  • Respect the referee’s decision.
  • Give attention to each of the children involved in football, not just the most talented.
  • Give encouragement to everyone to participate in football.

A player should:

  • Avoid all forms of gamesmanship, and time-wasting.
  • Always have regard to the best interests of the game, including where publicly expressing an opinion on the game and any particular aspect of it, including others involved in the game.

Obligations Towards One’s Own team

A player should:

  • Make every effort consistent with Fair Play and the Laws of the Game to help his own team win
  • Resist any influence which might, or might be seen to, bring into question his commitment to the team winning.
  • Respect for the Laws of the Game and Competition Rules

A player should:

  • Know and abide by the laws, rules and spirit of the game, and the competition rules. Accept success and failure, victory and defeat, equally.
  • Resist any temptation to take banned substances or use banned techniques.
  • Respect Towards Opponents

A player should:

  • Treat opponents with due respect at all times, irrespective of the result of the game.
  • Safeguard the physical fitness of opponents, avoid violence and rough play, and help injured opponents.
  • Respect Towards match Officials

A player should:

  • Accept the decision of the Match Official without protest.
  • Avoid words or actions which may mislead a Match Official.
  • Show due respect towards match officials.
  • Respect Towards Team officials

A Player should:

  • Abide by the instructions of their coach and team Officials, provided they do not contradict the spirit of this code.
